FRP Lamination for Steel Structures
FRP lamination for mild steel structures such as handrails, I-beams, C-channels and hollow sections. An ISO or vinyl ester lining protects steel in chemical, fertilizer and agrochemical plants and on coastal and offshore sites.
FRP Lamination for Steel Structures
FRP lamination for steel structures is a fiberglass lining of resin and glass mat laid over mild steel handrails, I-beams, C-channels and hollow sections to protect them from chemicals and corrosion. It is used in chemical, fertilizer and agrochemical plants, and as a protective coating on coastal and offshore metal structures exposed to sea air and salt water. Mui Fatt laminates steel on site, or you can send the parts to our factory in Port Klang.

How we laminate steel
- Site visit: our technical staff check the steel, and access for workers, before work starts.
- Surface preparation: the steel is ground to remove rust, and dust is removed.
- Priming: one coat of resin primer by brush or roller, left about 1 to 2 hours until tacky.
- Lamination: each ply of glass mat is laid into wet resin, wetted through and rolled to remove trapped air, then the surface veil. Each stage is touch dry in about 3 to 4 hours.
- Topcoat: a resin-rich waxed topcoat, left to cure about 12 hours.
- Inspection: visual inspection for blisters, cracks and trapped air, with the plies counted as they are laid.
We work at 10°C to 50°C, relative humidity below 90%, with the surface at least 3 K above dew point, and not in rain.
No welding or metal cutting may take place near or above the lining area.
Applications
- Chemical, fertilizer and agrochemical plants: handrails, I-beams and steel structures
- Coastal and offshore metal structures: protective coating against sea air and salt water
- Steel parts that can be removed, laminated at our factory and installed again

Questions About Steel Structure Lamination
Can you laminate steel parts at your factory?
Yes. Smaller steel parts can be sent to our factory in Port Klang. Larger structures are laminated on site.
Is FRP lamination better than paint on steel?
For chemical splash or immersion, yes, because it is glass reinforced and millimetres thick. For dry, mild conditions a paint coat may be enough and costs less.
Do you repair old FRP linings?
Yes. We repair and reline old FRP linings. Inspect the lining regularly: a hard knock or a pinhole lets moisture or chemical reach the steel.
Berapa harga lapisan fiberglass untuk struktur keluli?
