Unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) is the liquid resin used to make fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). GP vs ISO vs Vinyl Ester Resin: Which Grade?

Orthophthalic (GP) resin is the general purpose polyester grade used for most everyday fiberglass laminating. Isophthalic (ISO) resin is a premium polyester grade with better chemical and water resistance, for parts that stay wet or meet chemicals for years. Vinyl ester is a different resin family used where chemical attack is more aggressive, such as strong acids or alkalis or higher temperatures. Mui Fatt lists GP and ISO resin; for aggressive chemicals, ask us about vinyl ester.

In simple terms, start with GP for general FRP work, move to ISO where water or chemical resistance matters, and ask about vinyl ester for strong chemicals. Tell us the chemical, its strength and the working temperature, and we will advise.

What Unsaturated Polyester Resin Is Used For

UPR is mixed with a hardener and laid with fiberglass reinforcement. It cures into a hard, strong FRP part or layer. Common uses include:

• Hand lay-up and spray-up: building FRP parts in moulds, layer by layer
• FRP products: water tanks and covers, wastewater tanks, roofing sheets, panels and moulded parts
• Marine and automotive: boats, marine parts and automotive parts
• Lamination and lining: FRP layers on concrete and steel for waterproofing and protection

What is unsaturated polyester resin (UPR)?

What is CIPP resin?

CIPP resin is an unsaturated polyester resin for cured-in-place pipe lining. A resin-soaked liner is installed inside a damaged sewer pipe and cured to form a new pipe within the old one, with little or no digging.

Do you sell fiberglass mat and hardener?

Yes, for waterproofing. The 10 kg waterproofing resin comes with hardener, and fiberglass chopped strand mat of 300 g/m² is sold in a 10 kg pack or a full roll.
