The standard scope of supply for the GRP/FRP sectional panel tank includes the following:
Pipework and plumbing connections are excluded from the tank supply. This includes:
The tank is supplied with the required panel openings, while connecting pipework and associated plumbing works are to be arranged separately by the customer or project contractor.
FRP/GRP sectional panel tanks are assembled from individual panels using bolted connections with internal and external bracing. The modular design allows tank capacity to be configured according to the required water volume and available installation space.
The tanks weigh approximately one-third as much as an equivalent steel tank. This can reduce structural dead load, which is particularly relevant for elevated slabs and high-rise rooftop installations.
FRP/GRP panels are non-corrosive and do not rust internally or externally. This helps support long-term water storage without the corrosion issues associated with steel tanks.
The tanks use a food-grade internal gelcoat and are suitable for potable municipal drinking water and treated cold-water storage. They can also be used for rainwater harvesting and non-corrosive process water at ambient temperatures, subject to the suitability of the stored liquid and project requirements.
The sectional construction allows individual panels to be transported through relatively tight access routes and freight lifts. Assembly is completed on site without hot-works or structural welding.
Standard configurations typically require 2–4 days for installation, depending on site hoisting access and whether the required concrete plinth foundation has been prepared. The stated installation scope covers material supply and on-site panel assembly.
The FRP/GRP panels use polyester resin with UV stabilization, supporting their use in outdoor installations.
FRP/GRP sectional panel water tanks and steel water tanks can both be used for water storage, but their construction, weight and corrosion characteristics differ. For projects where transport access, structural loading and corrosion resistance are important considerations, the differences may affect tank selection.

FRP/GRP sectional panel water tanks are used for water storage across residential, commercial, industrial and institutional applications. Their modular construction allows tank capacity and configuration to be adapted to the available space and required water volume.
Typical applications include:
Mui Fatt FRP/GRP sectional panels are manufactured by Y.T. Fibreglass Industries Sdn Bhd using the hand lay-up (contact moulding) process. Layers of E-Class chopped strand mat and E-Class woven roving are laid into the panel mould by hand and wetted out with unsaturated polyester resin, then cured to produce panels with consistent dimensions and strength.
Many FRP sectional panels on the market are instead produced by SMC (sheet moulding compound) press moulding, where a pre-made compound sheet is compressed in a heated machine press. Mui Fatt panels are hand laid-up rather than SMC press-moulded.
The sectional panels are assembled on site using bolted connections with external Hot-Dipped Galvanized (HDG) steel bracing and internal SS304/SS316 stainless-steel tie-rods or stays. This structural bracing system supports the integrity of the assembled tank and follows the applicable MS 1390 guidelines.
The FRP/GRP panel system uses 1 m × 1 m and 1.5 m × 1 m standard panel sizes, with additional panel dimensions and technical specifications available for different tank configurations.
The manufacturing material specifications include BS 3532, BS 3496 and BS 3479. The panels are also subject to SIRIM supervision and testing as part of the quality-control process.
