FRP Lamination for Agitator Shafts, Impellers and Equipment
FRP lamination for agitator shafts is a fiberglass lining laid over a mild steel mixing shaft and its impeller to protect them from the liquid being mixed. Mui Fatt laminates shafts and impellers at our factory with chopped strand mat (CSM) plies in natural colour, and chooses the resin from the resin maker's chemical chart for your chemical and temperature.

How we choose the resin
We check your chemical, its strength and the working temperature against the resin maker's chemical resistance chart. GP resin suits water and mild duty. Strong acids or alkalis, or higher temperatures, need vinyl ester.
How we laminate a shaft
- Surface preparation: rust is ground off and dust is removed.
- Priming: a resin primer is brushed on and left until tacky.
- Lamination: CSM plies are laid into wet resin and rolled to remove trapped air, then the surface veil.
- Topcoat and inspection: a resin-rich topcoat, then a visual inspection.

Questions About Shaft Lamination
Which option should I choose?
If the impeller must come off for maintenance, choose a bolted impeller with the bolts left open. Otherwise a welded or fully laminated impeller gives one sealed piece.
Can GP resin be used for hydrochloric acid?
For hydrochloric acid around 20% we recommend vinyl ester. The resin maker gives no rating for GP resin at that duty.
How is the lining checked?
By visual inspection for blisters, cracks and trapped air, and by counting the CSM plies as they are laid.
