The CC 177.8 x 50.8 x 6.35 is a pultruded fiberglass (FRP) C-channel (also called U-channel): depth x flange width 177.8 x 50.8 mm (7 x 2 in); thickness 6.35 mm (1/4 in). It is a deep 7 inch channel with a 2 inch flange for longer spans. It is made in Malaysia by Hexagon MF Composite Sdn Bhd, Mui Fatt's pultrusion sister company, in isophthalic polyester resin with a surface veil, in RAL 7035 light grey, and supplied by Mui Fatt.

Choosing This Size

The extra depth and the wider 50.8 mm flange make the 7C stiffer than the 6C channels, so it can span further between supports. The wide flange also gives good bearing for grating and room for bolts.

Frequently Asked Questions

7C or 8C?

The 8C channels are deeper (203.2 mm) for even longer spans. The 7C is lighter and suits moderate spans.

Why choose a deeper channel instead of a thicker one?

Depth adds stiffness faster than thickness, so a deeper channel usually deflects less over the same span.

Is a fire-retardant version available?

Yes. Profiles in fire-retardant resin to ASTM E84 are made on request. Vinyl ester resin is also available on request for stronger chemicals.

Why use FRP instead of steel?

FRP is much lighter than steel, does not rust, does not conduct electricity and resists many chemicals and salt air, so it needs little maintenance in wet or corrosive sites.
