MuiGrate FRP Walkway Grating Cover for Drains and Trenches (Pultruded)

The MuiGrate FRP walkway grating cover is a framed, hinged cover made from pultruded FRP (fibreglass) grating, used to cover drains, trenches and service pits along walkways. It is made to your opening in 25, 38 or 50 mm grating depth, with an FRP or mild steel frame.

Covers are cut to length so they lift out easily for cleaning. FRP does not rust, conducts no electricity and has no scrap value, so it lasts where steel covers corrode or are stolen.

How to Size a Cover

Give the clear opening of the pit as width x length (W x L); for round covers, the diameter.
The cover is made at least 50 mm larger than the actual sump opening, so it rests on the ledge.
Frame depth is about 30 mm for 25 mm grating, 44 mm for 38 mm and 50 mm for 50 mm grating.
Single leaf covers go up to 1,200 x 1,200 mm; larger openings use a double leaf.

Why FRP

No rust, no scrap value: FRP does not corrode and has no resale value, so covers are not stolen like steel.
Light: one or two workers lift a cover without machinery.
Non-conductive: safe near pumps, panels and cables.
Anti-slip: gritted top or 3 mm chequered plate.

Questions and Answers

How long can one cover be?
Keep drain pieces to about 1.5 m so they lift out easily; longer runs use several covers.

Do I need a concrete recess?
A concrete recess with a ledge is preferred. For drains without one, send a photo and sizes and we suggest a frame.

Which frame should I choose?
An FRP frame never rusts. A mild steel or galvanised frame costs less and suits dry areas.

Can vehicles drive over it?
No. MuiGrate FRP grating and covers are designed for pedestrian traffic only, as BS 4592 sets out. Vehicle loads void the warranty unless Mui Fatt has certified the design.
